Students advised to be sincere in study
ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Attending the School Week celebration of Nyapin Higher Secondary School, Kurung Kumey on December 27, APYC president Tadar Niglar advised the students to study sincerely to be a good citizen.

TWS condemns physical assault
ITANAGAR, Dec 30: East Siang district Mahila Congress Committee President and active member of Tayeng Welfare Society (TWS) Oter Tayeng was mercilessly beaten by one Mary Ering while the former was attending District Congress Committee meeting at Pasighat on Dec 26, said the TWS in a release.
The TWS condemned the barbaric act by a responsible citizen, who is also wife of education minister and appealed to the law enforcing authority to immediately arrest the attacker.
An FIR lodged at Pasighat Police station said that Mary came to the meeting and physically assaulted and injured Oter with a weapon in presence of public.
Indigenous Faith Day
ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) J.J. Singh has conveyed good wishes to the people of the State on the occasion of Indigenous Faith Day.
In his message, the Governor expressed his hope that the celebration of the day will inspire all to carry forward the rich indigenous faith system as it has been done since times immemorial.
On this special occasion, I offer my prayers to Almighty God to invoke his choicest blessings for each one of us, the Governor added in his message.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki also extended his best wishes to the people on occasion of Indigenous Faiths Day to be celebrated across the state by all indigenous communities on Monday.
In a message on eve of the celebration, Tuki expressed hope that the festival would not only reaffirm the need to preserve the state’s indigenous faiths, beliefs and traditions but also send the message of religious tolerance and respect for all faiths.
“This is a big day for all of us that remind us of our roots. This is a celebration of our ancestors, our beliefs and our traditions. Let us all join the celebration in our own ways and means,” he said.
Tuki appealed that all kinds of festivals and celebrations should foster religious and communal harmony so that the state and its people march ahead in an atmosphere of peace and brotherhood.

APYC takes out candlelight march in solidarity with Delhi gang rape victim
ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress conducted a peaceful candle light vigil at Itanagar from Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan to Akaashdeep at 4.30 pm onwards in solidarity with the victim of Delhi gang rape and her family members.
While demanding justice for the victim, the Youth Congress demanded capital punishment for those culprits involved in the heinous crime.
Over 100 youth activists, including PYC, LYC (Western PC) and AYCs of Itanagar and Sagalee joined the candle light march.

The heinous crime and the subsequent death of the girl have forced our country to wake up from its slumber. The protests in Delhi and other big cities reflected the seething anger of our youth – the women and the students – not cowed down by the police brutality in India Gate, ACR said in a release.
But, the shocking silence of the government and the political class is adding insult to this mass anger. It is not enough to establish a commission or notify an enquiry, we need quick and timely action. The police reform is pending for decades, the judicial reform is pending, and legislations to protect women are weak enough to act as deterrents against sexual harassment, molestation, rape, dowry and female feticide, it said.
The youth of this country wants a change, an end to discrimination justified by the patriarchal society that we exist in, an end to the commodification of women that patriarchy also justifies.
It is also disconcerting for us that in Arunachal Pradesh also we are coming across increasing incidents of sexual assault against women, something that our egalitarian tribal society never dreamt of. We all need to act quickly and put an end to this menace, protect and respect dignity of our women.
For all of us it is surely a challenge, tougher than ever but we need to take that up. Perhaps, this is the best time to take a mass resolution that we should fight to end discrimination against women, change the patriarchal mindset against women and uphold equality and dignity of women.
A country can never develop, grow and move forward where the discrimination starts from the womb of our mothers, the release added.
Consumer awareness campaign held at Daporijo
ITANAGAR, Dec 30: All Arunachal Pradesh Consumers Association Upper Subansiri District Unit in collaboration with Department of Legal Metrology, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh organized mass consumer awareness campaign on December 28 as part of National Consumer Week celebration from December 24 to 30 at Rijo Conference Hall, Daporijo.
Inaugurating campaign, Deputy Commissioner Tahang Taggu, who is also the President of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, advised the traders to strictly follow the guidelines and norms of Consumer Act 1986.

GPF mourns Koyu’s death, flays Govt on scribe shooting incident
ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The Galo Peoples’ Federation (GPF) today deeply mourned the demise of Tokom Koyu who died in a fire accident yesterday at Koyu village.
Pointing out the immediate relief of Rs 2000 only for affected family, the GPF members suggested the Govt. to work for the welfare of the people.
Taking a dig at State Home Department, the Federation regretted that the people of Arunachal are being duped by the Department particularly in Tongam Rina shooting incident. The GPF further said that no details of its progress and any breakthrough have been reported regarding the case till date.

Lack of uniform approach in health sector
In view of gaping shortages of doctors, allied healthcare professionals would have to play an increasingly prominent role in providing health services to India’s masses, says a report released by the Public Health Foundation of India.
The report highlights the lack of a uniform approach in defining Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), largely known as ‘paramedic’ in India and calls for correcting this perception by standardising a comprehensive definition for AHPs, along with a defined career pathway, salary structure and cadre formation to ensure their growth prospects.
Pointing to a considerable regulatory gap in the allied health space, the report reasons that this is attributed to the lack of a comprehensive regulatory framework and absence of centres for excellence or apex bodies for professional development and training of AHPs.
It points out that a number of councils such as the Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI) to name a few, have already been established by Government of India for regulating the standards of education and training, as well as the registration of practitioners in respective fields. While such bodies aim to prevent unqualified people from practicing and also for maintain the standards of these professions, the fact however remains that there is no central regulatory mechanism for AHPs.
It calls for standardised course duration, curricula, training methodologies and other such components pertaining to the education and training of allied health professionals.

Who will give justice to us?
Dear Editor,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to inform the citizens of Arunachal Pradesh about the barbaric and savage act of Mary Ering (Siram), first wife of sitting Education Minister, who unnecessarily assaulted my mother without any valid reason on Dec 26 evening. My mother who is presently holding the post of District Mahila Congress Committee (DMCC) President, East Siang district was to attend the meeting conducted by Education Minister. Suddenly Mrs Siram physically assaulted my Mother who was with her Congress companion members. In the meeting there was no any argument with Mrs Siram. I got shocked when I first heard the news about my mother being attacked and badly injured in the meeting hall where all its committee members were present.
My motto here is to convey the people that there was no valid reason, people usually think “oh! She hit her there must have been a reason.” Even you must have thought that. I thought in similar way too when I first heard the news. But when I spoke with eye witness, everyone told me there was not a single worthy reason. She must not forget that her husband is a minister and people need him.
Some people updated this incident in social networking site and they didn’t know the true story of my mother’s incident. If my mother is guilty, she will never “Knock for justice”. An FIR has been lodged in Pasighat Police station but in vain. Therefore, through this esteemed daily I would like to ask citizens of Arunachal Pradesh who will give justice to my mother?

After the gory 26/11 Mumbai mayhem, the whole country was baying for the blood of Kasab and the "nationalists" even questioned why he should be tried in court at all ! Following Kasab's hanging, the "patriots" had also celebrated his death!
Now it is high time we realise that the Indian rapists and murderers of the hapless
girl are infinite times greater sinner than the Pakistani Kasab. The hungry uneducated
unemployed Kasab was merely a victim of poverty whose plight was cleverly exploited
by the terrorist organisations to further their vested interests. Also he was a mere
instrument rather than the think-

Innumerable cases of rape and murder get reported in the dailies of this "great"
nation claiming to "worship" women. But right from the media to the common public,

As far as punishment is concerned, there lies absolutely no reason why the criminals would not be hanged to death. Let's hope that such a punishment is not "reserved" for only a rural poor caretaker like Dhananjoy Chatterjee who was alleged to have committed the same offence!

Also we should raise our voice against the philistine dirty mainstream commercial films, advertisements and sections of visual and print media which barbarically exploit feminine bodies to make a quick buck. Vulgar display of skin and constant portraying of women as "sex objects" in the name of "modernity" and "art" have absolutely devastated the moral fabric of the society resulting in increasing incidents of eve teasing, molestation, rape and related murder.
